Diaper Change #10 - Death Penalty

Before:

The Dirty Diaper: VBO #10

After:

The Clean Diaper: WWFFS #10

Miriam's Commentary

Ok, this one hits really close to home. As insensitive as this is to the plight of women violently treated like I was, I can only say from my own experience that I wish I'd seen an image like this before I made my choice to abort. As traumatized as I was, maybe something would have snapped inside me and I'd have realized that it wasn't my child's fault that their father was the absolute worst sort of violent human possible.

I don't really believe in the death penalty, but if all death penalties were one day outlawed I'd vote for people who rape to be the exception. Anyone who rapes anyone, no matter the gender of those raped or the gender of the perpetrator, should be sent into the afterlife to deal with God as quickly as due process allows. It is perhaps the most grievous evil on earth in my mind and I am NOT alone in that sentiment.

A Note from Buzz on Trauma Dumping

In the first meme above (we refer to these as 'Vulgar Buzz Originals' or VBO's) you get the full force of trauma that I was working through at age eighteen when I discovered that my mother had attempted to abort me. My therapist recommended that I use my graphic design skills to work through my rage, grief and pain... a closely supervised 'trauma dump' if you will.

The visceral, raw and often vulgar rage you see in my original images is not that of some ultra right wing pro-lifer.

That fetus is me!

That little baby holding up the sign is me desperately trying to fight for my right to live.

This is personal, not theoretical.

Let that sink in a minute.

All that being said, I am happy to report that working through this under the careful guidance of my therapist has definitely helped. I've moved past the 'rage stage' and found some healing. Healing has also come through working with Miriam here and connecting with other abortion survivors (there are more of us than you think).

If you have been traumatized we highly recommend seeking healing through a psychologist who specializes in trauma therapy like our friend Paul in Uganda. (nkatapaul@gmail.com, WhatsApp  +256765480918). We had the privilege of speaking with Paul in Chat 8 which you can see here.

VBO memes are not for sensitive souls or the feint of heart. They are presented here not as an exercise in vicarious traumatization, but rather to allow the viewer to gain some sense of the raw trauma that I and other abortion survivors have experienced. I believe it also gives a relatively realistic response of a tiny human in utero if it was given adequate abilities to express itself knowing it was about to be violently dispatched.

Miriam on Diaper Changes

A mother isn’t bothered by a messy diaper or a child covered in vomit. We clean them off, sometimes singing to them or tickling them along the way and then we send them off to play.

As such a mom, I’m treating each Vulgar Buzz Original (VBO) as a child with a dirty diaper. I’m not bothered much by its stench and refuse to ignore the child because it is smelly or in this case, uttering crass vulgarities under dire duress, a completely understandable response to trauma.

It was pretty easy to imitate the VBO style with InDesign to make the more civil language version above. My intent in doing this is to begin bringing healing to the traumatized soul, like any mom would. In the end however, it isn't important which image helps a person make a better choice, it only matters that the message hits home before it is too late for the most vulnerable humans in the world.

Diaper Change #9 - Personhood Nazis

Before:

The Dirty Diaper: VBO #9

After:

The Clean Diaper: WWFFS #9

Miriam's Commentary

Like VBO #3, this one is also referring to the "Africans are only 3/5 human" laws that were codified in the United States and then borrowed by the Nazis to justify exterminating Jews. Truly, with a degree in historical studies I can emphatically state that the practice of declaring other humans as less than fully human in order to oppress or exterminate them goes back to the dawn of human history. Alas, nothing is new under the sun.

Diaper Change #7 - Women's Rights?

Before:

The Dirty Diaper: VBO #7

After:

The Clean Diaper: WWFFS #7

Miriam's Commentary

This is almost the same as VBO #2 where "Women's rights? PALEASE!" is another poster she could have wrote. This little woman in the fetal stage of life is incensed that she is being excluded from the rights of slightly more developed and mature female humans. Really, what kind of thoughtless feminist would exclude an entire class of human females when fighting for reproductive health rights?

Diaper Change #6 - Unjust Laws

Before:

The Dirty Diaper: VBO #6

After:

The Clean Diaper: WWFFS #6

Miriam's Commentary

According to Ms Vulgar Buzz herself, this image was one the first that popped into her mind as she was processing her trauma. It clearly references the Babylon Bee post and image we have on our Welcome Page. The folks at Vulgar Buzz are simply a bit more forceful with their message is all.

Diaper Change #5 - FFLM

Before:

The Dirty Diaper: VBO #5

After:

The Clean Diaper: WWFFS #5

Miriam's Commentary

I guess since everyone else was getting in on it, Ms Buzz figured she might as well get in on it as well. Of course this is not terribly sensitive to the whole BLM movement. I have been considered as a person of color my whole life, trust me, I understand what it feels like. But the atrocities done to the unborn are at least as important as the atrocities done to people of color in my opinion.

Diaper Change #4 - MY Body

Before:

The Dirty Diaper: VBO #4

After:

The Clean Diaper: WWFFS #4

Miriam's Commentary

Again, like we saw in VBO #1, our Derry Girl is obviously upset about everyone ignoring the fact that she is also a human female with a body. She is calling into question the mantra touted by thoughtless females "My Body, My Choice" because they are ignoring certain less privileged bodies who cannot voice their choice. This sort of "I'm big and you're little and there's nothing you can do about it!" attitude is being protested in no uncertain terms.

Diaper Change #1 - Choice

This wee lass is obviously upset about everyone ignoring the fact that she is also a human female with a body. Here at WWFFS we refer to her as Our Darling Derry Girl in utero.
